Why do my gutters clog?

Gutters are designed to catch and drain away rain water through their openings.  Unfortunately over time gutters will buildup a collection of a variety of debris such as leaves, twigs, acorns and much more. When not regularly cleaned this collection of debris will eventually prevent water from being able to drain thus creating a “clog.”

Why is cleaning necessary

After sufficient amounts of debris has built up in unclogged gutters water will no longer be able to drain away from the house effectively rending your gutter system useless. When rain water is not able to properly drain away from your house any number of dangerous and costly issues can result.  Among these are leaking and cracked foundations, flooded basements, moldy walls, even providing furtil breeding ground for mosquitos due to the backed up water stuck in your gutters.

How do I determine if my gutters aren’t draining properly?

There are a variety of observations that can indicate a possible gutter drainage problem.   While it’s impossible to list every one some of the most common include:

1.) Hearing water slapping on the ground after pouring over the sides of your gutter during a rainfall.
2.). Noticeable paint feeling or the corrosion of wood on your houses exterior.
3.) Mold or puddles of water forming around the outside of your house.

While serious problems that should be addressed immediately, each of these can be quickly remedied with either a routine cleaning or gutter repair.  Our experts will access your situation and provide you with your best course of action.

I’m worried I may have a serious problem.  Can I repair my gutters or will they need to be replaced?

While some gutter systems might be degraded to the point that a full replacement is the most advisable solution, most problems can be addressed by repairing your existing system!  Your old gutters may have become bent or dented, or might be pulling away from your home.  Some systems were installed with a drainage system that was never sufficient and can be increased by just replacing downspouts.  Finally, many common gutter problems are solved with just a simple old fashion cleaning!
